SparkPeople.com

I just joined that site. I'm not looking to really lose weight (if it happens it happens, if not, oh well), but I am looking at maintaining.

Since I've been married I've gained some weight and I've taken on some of my husbands less wonderful eating habits- less veggies, more snacks.

Most of our food I cook from basically scratch, so why have I started eating like him? Simple, I want him to like my food.

He'll eat what I make, and he won't complain about it either. But I know he doesn't really like it. Ergo, I cook more to his liking.

Take into consideration- My love is 6'4", 155 pounds, and his genes are not likely to make that change as he gets older (his dad is tall and still skinny, he's in his mid-life; his mom is tall and skinny in her early 40's after 3 children). He doesn't really worry about his figure. He is often quoted, "I'm trying to keep my girl-ish figure" while eating a massive bowl of ice cream or other such snacks.

I'm 5'6.5" and bit over 155 pounds, I look good. I remind my husband every day how lucky he is to have such a sexy wife, and he knows it.

I was on a birth control pill that made me sick to my stomach for about 4 months. Those months were during summer when I would usually be running around playing frisbee with my husband. I couldn't run, I could hardly climb stairs without wanting to throw-up. When I changed to a new pill, it lessened a little, but winter had already struck, and I was set in my lethargic ways.

Now I am off any type of pill, and loving being myself again.

And that brings us back to Sparkpeople.

I am going to get back into my more healthy life-style, and this website is going to help me.

Noting my food intake, being accountable for exercise, and having so many resources at my disposal is going to get me back.

Yay me!

Shavin'

Shaving is such a thing of the past...I wish.

I hate shaving, it's just time consuming and annoying.

Not only that, but as soon as you finish shaving, the hair grows back...sometimes even while you shave (it's a sad tale, I won't recount it for the sake of the tenderhearted).
I know, you're saying to yourself, "Then why don't you wax, or do any of the other many hair removal processes."

My excuse, I'm poor. I'm newly-ish married and going to college.

Of course the real excuse is, I'm really don't hate shaving all that much...I'm apathetic.

One day though, my "poor" excuse (haha, didn't even plan on that pun...man I'm awesome) will be gone and then I will get over my apathy and do something about it.

Until then, I'll just shave and sigh.

I mean, would life really be life if we always got what we wanted?

Cooking and cleaning

I love cooking. I hate cleaning dishes.

You can see where I might run into a few problems.

I have decided that the only way for me to pursue my love of cooking and not have to clean anything is to open a restaurant. That way I will be able to cook and then I can pay someone to clean the kitchen.

Problem solved.

Almost a year...

It's been almost a year since my last post, and no, nothing really special has happened.

I definitely didn't get proposed to in the EPCOT parking lot.

Nor did I get married in the Orlando Temple.

And, since those things did not happen, I did not have to move to married housing. I am most certainly not loving having a home of my own with my awesome husband.

And, I also did not stay in Rexburg with an internship while my husband goes to school, and I do not look up articles and call places and read books for my mentor.

Nope. Nu-huh. None of that has happened. The year just went by slowly and uneventfully.

Thank goodness, I don't know if I could have handled all those changes.

Freedom! Sweet, sweet Freedom!

Freedom is the sweetest prize of them all.

I have tasted freedom, I have lived it, and I have had it taken away.

No, not taken away, I have given it up. I left my freedom behind and went back into my old captivity. How much I want to run away and be free, how much I want to be back to were I was the decider of my own fate, of my own days.

I am stuck and have to wait out the rest of my days of imprisonment with patience. Patience and a little hope. A hope for my future, that it will be better than what I have now, what I know now. Hope that I will be able to give better than what I have been given.

Freedom is making choices and having consequences. My choices are now limited, and I am still paying the consequence of the choice I did make.

Learn a lesson from me- Never, if you can help it, move back in with your parents!

Of heroins and brownie mix

I have just decided that I am going to be the heroin of my own story.

"Aren't you always?" They say.

Nay! Sometimes, people (myself) are silly and allow others to be the heroes/heroins of their stories. So, my life is now going through a major editing session. Basically, I am re-writing everything. The characters are currently under major renovation, and the plot is going to change dramatically. Don't worry, every thing will be essentially the same...well, as far as the word "essentially" can be stretched. Ok, you get the gist.

-------------

Chocolate is probably the best discovery(next to the discovery of milk chocolate). Brownies are probably the noblest use of chocolate is the whole universe. Scratch that, they ARE the noblest.

New recipes rather scare me sometimes. Does it really taste as good as it says it does? Will it affect how people view my cooking if I follow the recipe and it is terrible?

You know, the basic paranoia.

This brownie mix claimed to be "easy." It was right there in the title, "Easy Brownies." I figured, "Well, I want the most chocolaty goodness with the least amount of effort. Let's give it a try."

That may one day win a spot with other famous last words. But I digress.

First I preheated the oven (it takes a while to heat up sometimes). Then, I set to work on the batter (a liquid or semi-liquid mixture, as opposed to dough: a soft, thick mixture). It was relatively easy.

The oven was preheated and the brownies were ready to be baked (to cook with a dry heat, more specific than "cook" which is to prepare by applying heat).

I opened the oven door, put the pan in, and WHAM! My eyes started to burn and my nose was hurting from the smoke.

I hate oven cleaner. It never comes all the way off the first five times wiping it out. It smells awful and is probably poisonous to normal people. Why do we use it? Because we are inherently lazy beings that do not want to do more than we have to, even at the cost of our longevity.

I grabbed the brownies out of the toxic oven when I was finally able to concentrate on something besides my burning eyes. I was very, very upset.

But, to make a long story short...er, I finished baking them at a friends house where they were received with much joy and celebration.

The End.

P.S. The new recipe is decent, not my favorite.

Tale of the Charger.

Recently, my laptop changer has been finicky. That, and it heats up an awful lot, it almost burnt me a couple of times. I was getting a little frustrated with it, but no big deal.

Well, yesterday, I was charging my laptop while sitting in our kitchen area (if you have seen my apartment, you understand more of what I mean). One of my many roommates, Brownie Queen, was sitting next to me, and we were discussing the universe and how I was ever so essential to it being in existence. She needs to do some homework so she gets up, takes a step, and trips over something. At the same time, my laptop rushes towards the edge of the counter while twirling to complete a 90 degree turn. I look down, and the plug to my computer is bending the wrong way. My first sub-conscience thought is, "Whoa, that is not natural." What came out of my mouth was, "You broke it."

Really, it is no big deal. One of my other roommates, Fiancee, has the same computer as I do so I am using her charger while I invest in a new one...or a new computer. Besides, now I get to tear apart a charger.

I am generally a very safety conscious person, so when I decided to demolish the broken thing, I made sure that it was unplugged.

Then I wanted to see if it worked, so I plugged it back in. Regrettably, it didn't work.

So I decided to strip-down to the wires a little more.

Fiancee saw me doing that. In a slightly worried tone she said, "Dear, is it unplugged?"

"Of course, I'm not that silly."

But, she made me wonder. Ergo, I asked Russian Spy to see if it was unplugged. She checked, looked at me and said, "No, it's not."

"Haha, I guess I might be silly sometimes."

Later that day------------

I went to the store to buy some electrical tape so I could fix my plug. By holding it just right, I could get it to charge...a little.

By this time, there was no rubber, just little wires naked to the whole world.

The anatomy of a plug for a charger- At one end there is a little nub that is almost perfectly smooth and round that picks up the electric current to a wire that is surrounded by white rubber (just so you know) at the other end.

As I put them together, sometimes there would be a blue spark and a sizzling sound. Spark sizzle, spark sizzle. The bright lights entranced me, but that is almost beside the point. I was trying to find the sweet spot so I could tape it to make it stay. I kept getting harder and harder to find the sweet spot. When I took the time to look at the nub and wire, I found that the nub was no longer smooth. It now had either metal acne or cancer. Apparently, I soldered some of the wiring to the nub. That is funny.

My charger doesn't work anymore...and there is now no way to save it. What a great adventure. Besides, now I have electrical tape, woohoo!

Really funny guys. You are quite the jokers.

Creativity comes from the soul of a person. Even something that is not considered by some to be very creative is still conceived in the same place. Which is why so many people are slow to show their creative sides and are very sensitive when they do. Even goofing off by using a creative ability is difficult.

I have no idea how long it took me to start singing in front of people. My best friend had a group of other friends and they were all basically music geeks. For example, by the concession stand in a movie theater, there was a spot that had really good acoustics. They all decided that they would harmonize...right there...in front of a hundred people. They all looked at me expectantly. I refused. They all knew what they were doing, and I wasn't qualified. Besides, they would only make fun of me if I did.

Even though I have gotten a little over my fear of making a fool of myself (singing whenever, wherever, and however if feel), when people say negative things, especially by way of a joke, it still hurts. I understand that they are "joking," but every joke has an element of truth. If a person cries out, "OW! My ears are in pain!" I know that they mean it to be funny (harr harr, I am really laughing), but I also know it to mean, "I don't like your voice, it is ugly, so please stop singing because you are embarrassing and awful."

Realizing this, I have made it a point to try not to make any jokingly negative comments about anything that is in any way, shape, or form creative. Be it playing an instrument, singing, drawing, sculpting, writing, or even cooking. If I don't like it, I tell them (in a tactful way, but still straight forward). It is much easier to parry a blow that is coming from the front than one that is coming from a "funny" angle. I prefer others to do that to me as well. Tell me once that you hate it and leave it at that. Chances are, I still like it, and bashing is not going to get your point across any better. If you are constantly making jokes about its awfulness, I don't know how to react, so I shut down. No more creativity, and no more closeness. My trust is broken, and you are no longer worthy of seeing my true self. The same probably goes for countless others.

So, just be careful what you say around and about people. Be courteous, and don't try to be witty because, really, you can't pull it off all that well.

Hmmmm....

I went to bed at 6:30 AM this morning. Yeah...I know...it's crazy, but I am ok with that. I enjoyed staying up that late because I was watching the best Anime ever "Bubblegum Crisis." The truth is out, Judes loves anime. But guess what, I always have, and probably always will...as long as I can find clean ones.

Then at 8:30 AM I was called in to use my amazing making-cakes-out-of-a-box skill. From then until about 11:30, I was making cakes. (Enrichment is not my friend right now...and hasn't been for a while...and probably won't be any time soon.)

After the cakes were done, I got ready for the day. I called into work because I was not feeling well, but I get to make up my hours tomorrow.

I read my book for a little bit (not so sure if I like this one: Treason by Orson Scott Card. It is really iffy, even for him).

I then get a call asking me if I will make the icing for the a fore stated cakes. I said yes. I was in a much better mood than at 9 AM this morning, so it was pretty fun.

Now I am off to Enrichment, where I have half of the lesson to give.

I am not sure whether or not I am going to stay the whole time. I have something that I do every Wednesday, and it is rather important for my mental health...which Enrichment doesn't help in keeping stable.

The Adventures of Nameless (and her unfortunate apprentice)

The scene: Our heroin, "Nameless" (the Living Paradox; the Queen of the Conundrum; the Enigmatic Evil-bane...for modesty's sake, we will stop it at that, but there are many more) has a secret tool that allows her to hone in her natural ability to control people.

The tool is to be used only by those who understand its purpose and ability. It is very dangerous to the novice and the unwary.

One day, Nameless decided that maybe it was time to train an under-fighter (you never know when crime is going to happen, and what if The Living Paradox is sick or unavailable?). A promising young crime-fighter named Bear appeared to be the best candidate.

Nameless took Bear back to her "Location of Mystery" (no one even knows what it is: a den, a cave, a watch tower, a broom closet?) and began training the Heroin-to-be.

The trainee learned quickly and grew immensely in her skills and abilities.

The Queen of the Conundrum was pleased and thought often of the good fortune bestowed upon her. "Ah! Finally, someone to pass along the perplexing ways of my life. An heiress to my magnificent power has arrived. Bear is my hope and my future."

We are not sure why Nameless thinks this. She is young...younger even than Bear, and that by a few years. But, like her sub-titles state, she is a mystery never to be solved.

One fateful day, The Mysterious Maiden (I told you there was more) decided that her young Padewan was ready to learn the secrets of the secret tool.

The tool was brought forth. The tool was unveiled. The tool made Bear cry.

Nameless never again tried to instruct another in the ways of the tool, and to this day, she is still the only being who understands it.

When ever Bear overheard someone whisper about the secret tool, the one only the Inexplicable Avenger can understand and use, she tells her tale of woe.

Now Nameless and the tool are viewed as evil, and it is all thanks to Bear. Bear: the wannabe heroin who did not know when enough was enough.

The Enigmatic Evil-bane, to this day, cannot solve one mystery- Why would Bear want people to know an embarrassing story like that.

But, Nameless has come to the understanding that life is full of mysteries...herself being a significant one.

Good day...bad day

Friday was a good day...even with all of its crap.

I woke up at 8 AM (miraculous, but true nonetheless)
I was able to take as much control as possible of a situation that was bothering me, and now I don't feel helpless (although the outcome does not really make me happy...at all...a little tiffed actually)
I went to the store with my roommate, Playa, because she needed to buy groceries (I love doing that, best thing ever)
Other roommate, Spark, made dinner for everyone from some of the groceries purchased on previously stated trip for that reason (deliciousness, not to mention free)
I got to work for two hours today (pretty much made the whole day...and week. It feels so good to go to work. Ahh! Heehee, I am so happy...still grinning about it)
Watched "7 Pounds" (really good movie, but still not so sure why it is titled as such...some research is in order)

Over all, a very good Friday.

Trials

It doesn't rain, it pours. But, that is ok, we need the rain...errr, the pouring.

This goes both ways. Blessings pour out on us as well as the trials. Oh wait! They both can be considered blessings. Trials are blessings, but in a horrid, terrible, disgusting Halloween costume. Take off the outer layer and you have growth and strength waiting for you.

My life for the past few weeks has been a lot of trials, one right after the other. Not really though, they tend to just build on each other and not go away. Let me rephrase- my life for the past few weeks has been one huge trial that has been growing exponentially (as in- 2 to the 2nd power is 4, and 4 to the 2nd power is 16, etc.).

The only thing that is getting me through this is the hope for a brighter tomorrow and the love I know my Savior and my Heavenly Father have for me. Sometimes I forget how much I am loved, and then I receive a much needed blessing of comfort from my home teachers, and I remember and feel it again.

The Atonement is amazing. How can I even explain how it has helped in my life? Every time I try to explain it, I become tongue-tied. Uh, it is frustrating not being able to put into words what I feel and know. I just have to rely on the Spirit to get the message of love and understanding across. How pure and true the love of our Savior and our God is. How we are each valued so highly, each so precious in Their eyes. They ache for us more than we can ever ache for anything. It is so infinite. Jesus Christ took our sins upon Himself. He knows perfectly everything that we go through. Feels every pain and every joy we experience. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He is the only way for us to return to our Father. The Father let Him suffer for our sake. He let Christ, His most beloved, come down and die for us.

How can we repay Him? We can't, but we can use the Atonement. By using it and returning to out Heavenly Father, we fulfill our end. Our agency, the only thing we can call our own, is the only thing that we can give back to our Heavenly Father. We make His will ours, and nothing can stop us. Trials become a stepping stone for our eternal progression and we conquer all, but only if we trust in the Lord completely.
